Brent Taylor

Brett Taylor was appointed as an Election Commissioner in April 2019. He is no stranger to public service. In 1995, he was elected to the Memphis City Council, becoming the youngest member ever elected. Taylor was re-elected in 1999 and again in 2003 and acted as Chairman until he retired from the City Council in 2007. During his tenure there he was credited with spearheading the first Education Summit, and Bounce Back Memphis, a small business program.
In addition to the Bounce Back Memphis initiative and the Education Summit, while Chairman he also removed council perks such as taxpayer subsidized cell phones. The cuts in the council budget under his tenure as chairman resulted in a return of $163,000 to the general fund. Innovative legislation in crime fighting earned Taylor statewide recognition by the Tennessee Anti-Car Theft Committee.
Taylor served one term on the Tennessee Republican State Executive Committee in 2009 and 2010.
In 2011 he was appointed to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Taylor holds a degree in Mortuary Science and is a licensed Funeral Director in Tennessee and Mississippi. Mr. Taylor is President and CEO of Brentwood Funeral Services, a company which owns several funeral homes in West Tennessee and North Mississippi.
