Steve Stamson

Steve Stamson is a lifelong resident of Shelby County, and has a career in public service. Stamson was appointed to the Shelby County Board of Election Commissioners in October 2010.
Stamson served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a rifleman during the Vietnam War. He later received an Honorable Discharge. After completing his military service, he worked for International Harvester Co., until he entered the public sector.
He began working for Shelby County Government as a Business Tax Collector with the Shelby County Clerk’s office. He became manager of the Business Tax Division. Stamson was later appointed Chief Deputy of Juvenile Court by former Clerk Robert “Bob” Martin. Former General Sessions Court Clerk Chris Turner appointed Stamson as Administrator of the Civil Division several years later. He was elected Juvenile Court Clerk in 2002, where he worked until he retired in 2010.
Following his retirement, Stamson advised the Republican delegation of the Legislature representing Shelby County that he was interested in serving as an Election Commissioner.
Throughout his life, he has participated in many civic organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Al Chymia Shrine Temple and the Memphis Blues Society.
He has a long history of volunteering with political groups. He is a past president of the East Shelby Republican Club. He served on the Shelby County Republican Party as a committee member of District 95 and later as the 2nd Vice Chairman.
As an Election Commissioner, Stamson says he wants to see the Shelby County Election Commission operations staff continue to be transparent and to serve the voters to the best of their ability.
