In less than two months, the Shelby County Primary Election will be held.
At the February monthly meeting of the Shelby County Election Commission, the commissioners certified the candidates that will appear on the May 1st ballot. Shortly after that the official ballot was built, and once ready, it was mailed to all residents serving overseas in the military who requested an absentee ballot.
As more and more people become used to the modern touch screens on phones and tablets, they are having more difficulty using our older voting machines. Please use the attached stylus pen and press the end of it firmly in the middle of the box by your chosen candidate. Watch a short video about it here. And remember, REVIEW your summary screen carefully before pressing the CAST VOTE button.
The deadline to file petitions as independent candidates for county office is Noon Thursday, April 5, 2018. This is also the deadline to file for non-partisan offices like Judge and School Board that will appear on the August 2, 2018 Shelby County General Election. Noon Thursday, April 5, 2018 is also the deadline to file all petitions for State and Federal office - both partisian and independent.
Ever thought about running for public office? Attend this informative class to learn about the process. It will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at our Operations Center, 980 Nixon Drive.
Municipal elections for Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Millington will be held in conjunction with the State and Federal Election on November 6, 2018. Friday, May 18th is the first day to pick up petitions for these municipal offices. Petitions for these offices are due by Noon on August 23, 2018

Ever consider running for office? The Shelby County Election Commission (SCEC) is offering a class for people who are, so they can learn exactly what they must do to get their names on the ballot.
SCEC will hold the second of two classes on the subject on Saturday, January 20 at 10 a.m at the Operations Center at 980 Nixon Drive. The class will last about an hour, and is completely non-partisan.
It’s the end of 2017, here at the Election Commission, and we are already getting ready for the May 2018 County Primary Election. On November 17th, people began picking up petitions to run in that election.
September, the last month of the third quarter, is National Voter Registration Month. When we first began publishing the newsletter, the idea was that it would be distributed at the end of each quarter, as an update of what’s going on at the Election Commission with an eye toward upcoming events.
